Smith Magnet PTA President's Message:
On behalf of the PTA board, I would like to welcome you to the Smith Family. Our small school has grown exponentially in the last couple of years, so it's apparent how important the role of the PTA is to our teachers, staff and students. But we can't do what we do alone - we need all of you to help as well. Please considering joining the PTA to receive newsletters and email communication regularly to learn where the needs are most. The PTA is not just about meetings and raising money. A lot of what we do goes on behind the scenes, such as funding small teacher projects, volunteering at welcome receptions, or helping during BOG/EOG periods. There are many opportunities to support our school and the PTA is usually the first to know when there is a need and we quickly pass that along.
If you want to learn more about the internal workings of the board (without the commitment of being an officer), we have the following committees that work hard throughout the year and they are always looking for volunteer members:
- Fundraising Committee - Organizes restaurant fund raisers, book fair, catalog fundraiser and other events to raise money so PTA can sponsor events for teachers and students
- Teachers Appreciation Committee - Responsible for teacher's lounge snacks, Halloween treats, Holiday party, Valentine's Day treats and Teachers appreciation week
- Dojo Committee - Takes the Dojo cart to Kindergarten through second grades each month for kids to shop from. The committee also hosts monthly parties for third through fifth graders with more than 60 dojo points
- Events Committee - Coordinates the Fall carnival and Field day. This year we are working on adding a spring movie night as well.
- Spirit Rock Committee - Manages rental and upkeep of the spirit rock.
In addition, the PTA board also handles the order and sales of the Smith merchandise and yearbook.
